Error: "Could Not Retrieve IMessage: Interface is Not Supported" When Attempting to Write Email Message

Problem

You attempt to send an e-mail message using ACT! E-mail or if you are using Outllok as your email client when you get the following error message: "Could not retrieve IMessage: Interface is not supported ".

Solution

To correct this issue, please attempt the following the steps below:

    Step 1.

Close all open programs on your machine.

    Step 2.

Launch My Computer and browse to the following location:
C:\windows\system32

    Step 3.

Locate the MAPI32.dll file. Verify the version of this file. If the file version is anything other than 1.0.2536.0 (Office 2003), 12.0.6413.1000 (Office 2007), or 14.0.4760.1000 (Office 2010) then the file is out of date and you need to proceed with the steps in this document.

    Step 4.

Within the same directory location (C:\WINDOWS\System 32), double-click fixmapi.exe to update the MAPI32.dll file and close the window.

    Step 5.

Close Windows and Test

Note: In some cases, running fixmapi.exe will not update the file. If this is the case for your situation, follow the steps below for an alternate solution:

Alternate Solution

    Step 1.

Close all open programs on your machine.

    Step 2.

Open Windows Explorer and browse to the following location: C:\Program Files\Common Files\System\MSMAPI\1033.

    Step 3.

Locate the MAPI32.DLL file in this directory, right-click on it, and select Copy.
Note: On some machines the file to copy may be named MSMAPI32.DLL.

    Step 4.

Browse to the following directory: C:\Windows\system32.

    Step 5.

Locate the incorrect version of MAPI32.dll in here, right-click on it, and select Rename. Rename to MAPI32.dll.old.

    Step 6.

Right-click anywhere in the system32 directory and select Paste to paste the MAPI32.DLL file you copied earlier.

    Step 7.

Open Outlook, open ACT!, and test.

For Outlook versions prior to 2003

For users of Microsoft® Outlook® prior to the 2003 version, you also maybe be able to resolve this issue by changing the default HTML Editor that Windows uses for internet services. Please use the following steps:

    Step 1.

Close all open programs on your machine including ACT! and Outlook.

    Step 2.

Click the Start button and select Control Panel.

    Step 3.

In the Control Panel window, click on the Internet Options icon. The Internet Options dialog appears.

    Step 4.

Under the Programs tab, change the HTML Editor to Microsoft Outlook.

    Step 5.

Click Apply, then click OK

    Step 6.

Open ACT! and OUtlook and test solution.
